🐾 Frozen Semen Services
Preserving Your Dog’s Legacy
Preserving the genetics of an exceptional stud dog is one of the best ways to protect and continue the bloodlines you have worked so hard to develop.
WorldDogs Asia provides complete semen collection, evaluation, freezing, and long-term storage services — handled with the same care we give to our own dogs.
For your dog’s safety, we recommend a health examination prior to collection, and we can provide a health certificate form for your veterinarian.
Use of Frozen Semen in Japan (JKC Policy)
- The JKC requires that any bitch inseminated using frozen semen must have previously whelped a litter from a natural breeding.
- Currently, the JKC does not register litters produced domestically from frozen semen after the stud dog has passed away.
- This differs from most FCI countries. WorldDogs Asia is in contact with the FCI leadership, encouraging them to request JKC policy alignment. We remain hopeful this will change soon.
Freezing Semen for Export
Each country has its own regulations. WorldDogs Asia confirms the most recent import rules for the destination and advises on all required vaccinations, blood tests, and timing.
- Leptospirosis vaccination: can complicate exports. If given, please ensure the validity period never lapses.
- Lead time: please allow at least 6 weeks for us to complete all necessary procedures.
- Australia and New Zealand: due to very strict biosecurity regulations, allow a minimum of 4 months.
The Freezing Process — Step by Step
- Preparation: Email or mail your dog’s pedigree and microchip number so we can prepare the necessary health and collection certificates.
- Semen Collection: A veterinarian will collect the semen. The ideal timing is when a bitch is in heat, though a towel carrying her scent can be used as a substitute.
*If collection is performed outside Minamigaoka Animal Hospital, our special chilled extender and transport box are required.*
- Pre-freeze Evaluation: The semen is analyzed for volume, concentration, and motility to confirm its suitability for freezing.
- Freezing Procedure: The semen is cryopreserved in pellets under carefully controlled conditions.
- Post-Thaw Analysis: One pellet is thawed to check motility and recovery rate. This determines how many breeding cycles can be stored.
- Reporting & Billing: We will inform you of the results once analysis is complete. We'll then send you an information packet which includes a payment invoice, semen report, storage and shipping fee schedule, and shipping request form .
Tips for Best Collection Results
- Having a bitch in heat present improves semen volume and quality.
- Cooler months (October–June) are ideal for collection.
- Keep your dog calm and well-rested; avoid shows or strenuous activity for several days before collection.
- Have your dog urinate more than three hours before collection to prevent contamination.
- Avoid vaccinations within 30 days of collection.
- For export and future JKC registration, ensure all documents include the dog’s microchip number and official name.
Storage and Fees
- Annual storage fee: billed every June, covering storage through the following July.
- If post-thaw motility is low and viable sperm cannot be secured, storage may not proceed. Processing fees still apply.
- Storage capacity: each storage rod can hold up to three breeding units; fees charged per rod used.
